A spiritual practice that combines athletics, dance and religious rite, Zurkhaneh has come to Tocatì. A traditional kind of gymnastics with heavy clubs weighing up to 15kg that involve the rites of Mithraism, the influence of Shiite Islam and the pride of Iranian patriotism. The activities begin and end with the characteristic sound of the bell (“zang”) and are accompanied by epic songs and at certain moment the sound of the zarb, a traditional Persian drum.
