Tocatì is under nomination as a programme of activities (not only as a festival!) to the UNESCO Register of Good Practices for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage: the nomination’s results are expected by the end of 2022.

Why is Tocatì under nomination as Good Practice?

Tocatì draws itself as an exemple, as a Good Practice, for those communities and representatives intended to safeguard elements of their already recognised by UNESCO cultural heritage.

Tocatì programme proposes to safeguard not individual material elements, such as the best-known sites and monuments recognised as World Heritage, but intangible elements such as the knowledge and practices necessary to keep alive and transmit to the new generations the values linked to traditional games and sports. Through the transmission of these experiences and practices, communities work to safeguard the intangible cultural heritage of all humanity, sharing them.

But what is Intangible Cultural Heritage?

Intangible heritage is a living heritage, consisting of all the expressions of creativity and cultural diversity of communities, groups and individuals.

What, for example, do the held in this edition practices have in common?

The common trait of these practices, which makes them different and distinguishes them at the same time, is their aliveness, passed on from generation to generation, closely linked to the sense of identity, knowledge, and skills of communities of practice. They are evolving contemporary traditions whose vitality depends on our commitment to the future.
